Tracing a Point, Spinning a Vertex: How Circles are Made

چکیده
This paper proves several theorems involving how special points of a triangle trace circles as one of the vertices of the triangle is moved around the circumcircle. We investigate the larger issue of why this happens using constant distance ratios, and finally, we prove some theorems about strophoids and use a “lighthouse” construction to show that another special point of a triangle traces a strophoid.

Bouquets of circles for lamination languages and complexities
Laminations are classic sets of disjoint and non-self-crossing curves on surfaces. Lamination languages are languages of two-way infinite words which code laminations by using associated labeled embedded graphs, and which are subshifts. Here, we characterize the possible exact affine factor complexities of these languages through bouquets of circles, i.e. graphs made of one vertex, as represent...
متن کاملVertex tracing - interaktives ray tracing durch adaptiv progressives Refinement im Objektraum
This dissertation presents an approach for interactive, physically exact simulation of specular reflections and specular refractions in virtual environments. The introduced approach is called Vertex Tracing and allows a hybrid rendering to add global illumination effects in traditional hardware rendering systems. The core of the Vertex Tracing is an adaptive progressive ray tracing. In contrast...
متن کاملVoronoi diagram of a circle set from Voronoi diagram of a point set: II. Geometry
Presented in this paper are algorithms to compute the positions of vertices and equations of edges of the Voronoi diagram of a circle set on a plane, where the radii of the circles are not necessarily equal and the circles are not necessarily disjoint. The algorithms correctly and efficiently work in conjunction with the first paper of the series dealing with the construction of the correct top...
متن کاملEffect of a one-month yoga training program on performance in a mirror-tracing task.
The performance in a mirror star tracing task was assessed in two groups of volunteers (yoga and control) with 26 people in each group, and age range between 18 and 45 years. The star to be traced was six pointed and the outline was made up of 60 circles (4 mm in diameter). At the end of one month the yoga group showed a significant improvement in terms of an increase in the number of circles c...
متن کاملVariations on the Tait-Kneser theorem
At every point, a smooth plane curve can be approximated, to second order, by a circle; this circle is called osculating. One may think of the osculating circle as passing through three infinitesimally close points of the curve. A vertex of the curve is a point at which the osculating circle hyper-osculates: it approximates the curve to third order. Equivalently, a vertex is a critical point of...
